Film Interviews

CMBC Profile

July 2018

The Scripps Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (CMBC) Masters students take a summer intensive course, and as part of that summer intensive course, they learn about scientific documentary filmmaking. They have to profile a scientist and their work and make a short film about them, all in a week. In the summer of 2018 they chose me as one of the five scientists to profile.

Microplastic Aging

October 11, 2016

Scripps Institution of Oceanography highlighted my research paper on microplastic aging and degradation on its main website and social media channels. The link leads to an article that explains my experiment, as well as a video of me explaining my experiment, showing the experimental location and methods, and explaining the significance of the study's results.

Plastic is Forever

September 2016

I was interviewed by Dylan D'Haeze, a then 13-year old, for his documentary on marine debris. The documentary, compiled of interviews with multiple experts on this topic, has since won multiple awards at film festivals.

CareerGirls is a nonprofit whose goal is to provide tools for young girls to realize their career dreams by showing them how other women have succeeded and the many diverse and different careers women are working in. It is a video-based career exploration tool for girls, featuring 7,000 video clips from over 400 women role models.

CareerGirls interviewed me about being a female marine biologist and the process of applying to graduate school. I greatly enjoyed filming this interview with them, and it is one of the main ways other outreach and interview requests have found me. The clip "Why I picked Duke" was highlighted across Duke's social media channels.
